Random User Generator

Every address agrees with itself

A free API for generating placeholder people — like Lorem Ipsum, but for humans. Unlike the original, this one draws a real place and derives the postcode, dialling code and timezone from it, so a generated address survives the validation a real checkout puts it through.

Clwyd is in Wales. OG is not a postcode area. 016973 is Wigton, Cumbria. And Northern Ireland is not in Indochina.

Shetland contains Lerwick. ZE1 and 01595 both serve it. The clock is the one on the wall there.

What changed

and why it matters when the data has to be imported somewhere

Postcodes that exist

Thirteen nationalities ship complete real postcodes. Six more are one command away from the GeoNames export. No more five random digits standing in for a six-digit PIN.

Phone numbers that dial

Every landline opens with the real code for that town, with the right subscriber length and local prefix — 0191 3 for Durham, 0191 5 for Sunderland.

Regions that contain their cities

City and region are one draw, not two. Curated lists replaced 13,710 unverified place names, and no region can be left without a town.

Timezones from the map

The offset comes off the record, with per-city exceptions where a zone line cuts through a region — Rapid City runs on Mountain, Ciudad Juárez on El Paso’s clock.

Formats fixed at the source

Letters no longer appear inside phone numbers. Eircodes, Dutch postcodes, CEPs and PINs are all the right shape. Landline fields no longer hold mobile numbers.

Built for import, not just display

Values are shaped to survive address validation, so a batch of generated customers loads into a real store and resolves to the right shipping zone.

Street addresses stay generic on purpose — a real street paired with a real postcode would name a real building. Postcode and place data © GeoNames, CC BY 4.0.

How to use

You can use AJAX to call the Random User Generator API and will receive a randomly generated user in return. If you are using jQuery, you can use the $.ajax() function in the code snippet below to get started.

$.ajax({
  url: 'https://randomuser.mintbin.xyz/api/',
  dataType: 'json',
  success: function(data) {
    console.log(data);
  }
});

Results

The application will provide you with a JSON, XML, CSV, or YAML object that you can parse and apply to your application.

You can specify the format you want the results in using the format parameter.

Found a bug, or data that doesn't add up?

Address coherence is enforced by the test suite, but the world keeps redrawing its own boundaries. If a postcode, dialling code or region looks wrong for its city, it is worth reporting — that is exactly the class of bug this build exists to remove.
